A round table was held on the topic "Key Competences of the Logistician: New Requirements and Ways to Improve the Quality of Education"

March 03, 2017, Almaty Management University hosted a round table "Key Competences of the Logistician: New Requirements and Ways to Improve the Quality of Education". The goal is to discuss training of personnel in accordance with international standards and exchange of experience in the field of logistics. Representatives of the Kazakh-German University, the University of International Business, the Kazakh National Agrarian University (KazNAU), and the Project Logistics Center took part in the round table.

Participants of the roundtable discussed the optimization and improvement of delivery processes with the aim of minimizing transportation costs. In addition, participants of the round table noted that among the graduates of higher education institutions, people who are able to clearly define goals and tasks, systematize and analyze a large amount of information are first of all appreciated. Employers also noted that today in the field of logistics the highest demand is used by procurement specialists, logistics specialists on intercity and international transportation. The sphere of international logistics has been developing for no more than 15 years, therefore, qualified specialists with experience in this area are rather few, which forces employers to accept young specialists with little experience.

The participants of the round table, comprehensively considering the theoretical and practical aspects of the stated problem and guided by the need to unite efforts of the parties concerned in its successful resolution, adopted the following recommendations:

1. To take into account the requirements of employers when drafting an educational program and the competence of logisticians
2. Introduce information products in the training process for the training of logisticians
3. Strengthen the emphasis on the study of foreign languages (English, Chinese)
4. Involve employers in the implementation of scientific research in logistics
